Colophon

A colophon is the note at the back of a book about how it was made. This is that note for this site.

How it’s built

The site is built with Astro and written in plain Markdown files that live in a Git repository. It started life as the AstroPaper theme and is slowly being reshaped into something quieter: fewer moving parts, more room for the words.

Pages are rendered to static HTML at build time. There’s very little JavaScript, just enough to switch between light and dark themes, open the menu and search the archive, and everything you came for still works with it turned off.

Design

Text is set in Instrument Sans, self-hosted, with code in your system’s monospace font. The palette is a handful of warm greys and a single accent colour, and it follows your system’s light or dark preference unless you choose otherwise. Styling is done with Tailwind CSS.

Hosting and tools

The site is deployed on Netlify whenever a change lands on the main branch. Search runs entirely in your browser using Pagefind, and the preview images you see when a post is shared are generated at build time with Satori.

What’s not here

No analytics scripts, no ads, no cookie banner and no tracking pixels. If you want to know when something new is published, there’s an RSS feed.
